NOTE FROM THE ARTIST: This photograph and Catcus have a story.

The shot is from my very first roll of FILM - off of my very first Canon Rebel 2000 series - I took this like any tourist with a camera bigger than their knowledge would, and just pointed and shot. What I got here is, what we call in photography "a very happy accident"!

What else I discovered was a passion for both the desert and photography, which lead me to my nearest community college to learn all the boring technical stuff, basically how to use my Canon camera.  To this day I tell people, one photograph of a beautiful Arizona sunset and a gorgeous Saguaro Catcus literally changed me forever.

As for this Tall-Drink-of-Water Saguaro Catcus here; he stood guard along Bush Highway for decades, gawd knows how many, but sadly, I found him knocked over and returning to the earth in late 2020.  As you can see in the photo, there's a weak spot at the bottom left.

So, the fact that he fell on my watch only makes this photo all the more significant to me, I cherish it. I hope you the blanket, and I also hope you enjoyed my story and the story of a cactus's life, at least the part that I got to witness anyway.

Blessed Be,
Nichole I. Berrieault
